Simucube or Asetek: which setup suits you?

Simucube and Asetek both make Direct Drive equipment for sim racing. Choosing between them starts with your driving goals and the complete cockpit you want to build. A wheelbase is only one part of the experience: the steering wheel, pedals, chassis and setup all affect what you feel.

Two approaches to a sim racing setup

Simucube offers wheelbases, steering wheels and active pedal technology aimed at drivers who want detailed control over their equipment. Asetek SimSports offers its own range of wheelbases, wheels and pedals, with an emphasis on building a coherent setup within its range.

The available connections, mounting options and software features vary by product and generation. Compare the exact models you are considering rather than treating either brand as one fixed package.

Direct Drive feedback

In a Direct Drive wheelbase, the steering wheel is attached directly to the motor shaft. This lets the software communicate steering forces without the belts or gears used in other designs. The result depends on more than the peak torque figure: settings, wheel weight, software and the simulated car all contribute to the feel.

When comparing two bases, look at their stated maximum torque in N·m, the adjustment range and the controls you will use. A higher maximum does not mean you should drive every car at that level. The useful setting is the one that makes the steering readable over a full session.

Wheels and pedals

Choose the wheel shape and controls for the discipline you drive. A Formula-style wheel suits one type of cockpit and driving position; a round wheel may be more natural for rally or road cars. Button layout matters when you need to change settings without taking your eyes off the track.

Pedals deserve the same attention. Consider the brake's adjustment, travel and feedback, as well as your seating position. Sensor capacity and the force applied by your foot are different measurements, so check the specification of the exact pedal set rather than comparing one headline number.

Make the whole simulator work together

A rigid chassis holds the wheelbase and pedals steady, which makes your inputs more repeatable. Set the seat, steering wheel and pedals around the driver before refining force feedback. Motion is an additional choice for drivers who want physical cues from the cockpit; it is not required to benefit from a Direct Drive wheelbase.

LP SIMU selects equipment for the intended use of each simulator and prepares the complete configuration in its workshop. The right choice between Simucube and Asetek therefore depends on the models, the driving discipline and the way you want to use your cockpit.
